This theme finds a particular resonance in Sardinia, where women have historically played a central role in society – as decision-makers, economic drivers, and strong figures in family and community. The Sardinian brand Mariantonia Urru identifies a connection between their own values and the project: dignity, recognition, and visibility for women. “We see in this design a powerful bridge between our cultural identity and a global issue,” says Mariantonia Urru.
“It’s about merging tradition with modern awareness – for a future where women are no longer invisible.”

Through meticulous craftsmanship and visionary design, the project becomes more than just an object: it tells a story, challenges perceptions, and brings a universal issue into the present.

For centuries, female anatomy has been rendered invisible in medicine and society. The consequences are far-reaching: insufficient research, misdiagnoses, and a deeply rooted sense of shame passed down through generations.
An experience shared by countless women.
Designer Marie Brosius faced this invisibility firsthand. Her personal struggle with medical powerlessness and limited options led her to ask a fundamental question: Why do we know so little about the female body? Why is something that affects us all kept in the shadows?

With La Donna Vitruviana, Brosius offers a design-driven response. The project brings female anatomy into focus – visible, undeniable, and present. It calls for a new era of visibility, where the female body is no longer ignored. The name La Donna Vitruviana is a thought experiment: What if such a figure had always existed?
A female figure as a symbol for health and science – visible, acknowledged, and uncontroversial.
